{"id":967,"date":"2015-11-18T16:46:56","date_gmt":"2015-11-18T21:46:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/?p=967"},"modified":"2015-11-18T16:46:56","modified_gmt":"2015-11-18T21:46:56","slug":"nota-in-brevis-november-18th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/?p=967","title":{"rendered":"Nota in Brevis November 18th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a new craze, of all things, for adult colouring books.\u00a0 I know much has been written on the infantilization of our culture, the Boomers regressing to their earlier years, trying to find their lost youth, and the Millenials striving mightily to hold on to a youth quickly slipping away.\u00a0 But colouring books?\u00a0 Whatever happened to sketching, drawing, painting, creativity in general?\u00a0 G.K. Chesterton would doodle (quite well, as it turns out) as he wrote (difficult on a laptop, alas), as would his contemporary Hilaire Belloc.\u00a0 Why cannot our modern adults draw and colour?\u00a0 Too much work?\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think colouring in-between the lines was what Christ meant when he called for us to be as little children.\u00a0 But who am I to say? \u00a0Well, I just did.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Most Canadians oppose the quixotic and imprudent attempt to bring over 25,000 Syrian &#8216;refugees&#8217; by the end of this calendar year, especially after it was discovered that two of the murderers in the Paris attacks apparently had Syrian passports, and had come in under the cloak of &#8216;refugeeism&#8217;, as ISIS warned they would.\u00a0 All it takes is a few such fanatics to create a whole lot of mayhem, and change things forever.\u00a0 But Mr. Trudeau and Ms. Wynne seem quite literally, as my Mum would say, &#8216;hell-bent and determined&#8217; on their course of action.\u00a0 I always puzzle over the faux-moral stances of liberal-moral-progressives.\u00a0 Perhaps their soft heart for the refugees is displaced guilt for their hard heart on almost every other, more grave and serious, moral issue?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/tears-of-joy-emoji.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-968 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/tears-of-joy-emoji.png\" alt=\"tears-of-joy-emoji\" width=\"106\" height=\"106\" \/><\/a>The Oxford Dictionary&#8217;s (the standard for all other dictionaries) &#8216;word of the year&#8217; is, yes, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.oxforddictionaries.com\/2015\/11\/word-of-the-year-2015-emoji\/\">an &#8217;emoji&#8217;,<\/a> one of those symbols that we modern adults (see above) place within our written texts.\u00a0 Is it a word?\u00a0 Well, it is a symbol, and signifies meaning, so perhaps it is.\u00a0 But I would consider it more a doodle, and would rather it were drawn, than just stuck in there from an array of three hundred and one choices of &#8217;emojis&#8217;.\u00a0 Alas, our child-like age.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today is the memorial of the Dedication of the Basilicas of Saints Peter and Paul, two of the four major basilicas in Rome (the others being Saint John Lateran, the Pope&#8217;s own cathedral, and Saint Mary Major).\u00a0 So let us pray for the Holy Father, as he continues to guide the Church Universal in the midst of these, as the Chinese proverb has it, &#8216;interesting times&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a new craze, of all things, for adult colouring books.\u00a0 I know much has been written on the infantilization of our culture, the Boomers regressing to their earlier years, trying to find their lost youth, and the Millenials striving mightily to hold on to a youth quickly slipping away.\u00a0 But colouring books?\u00a0 Whatever [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/967"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=967"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/967\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":969,"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/967\/revisions\/969"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=967"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=967"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/johnpaulmeenan.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=967"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
